All You Need To Know About Rubber Roofing

If you never heard about rubber roofing, then you should know this is actually a very durable exterior roofing material which people will generally use for flat roof surfaces. It’s generally used for covering the roofs of RVs, but at the same time it can also be a great option for commercial and residential structures. Because it’s a very durable material, it requires very little maintenance and care and regardless of the weather in your area, it will hold up very well.

Manufacturing

First of all, in what regards the materials this type of roof is made of, it’s a special one called EPDM. The rubber roofing is manufactured as a single sheet of rubber which is then sized to fit the roof. Because there are not welds or seams, there will also be no chances of splitting or leaking for those who consider it. The good news is that environmentalists can also go with this type of roofing, because it’s made from recycled materials, which results in a lesser impact on the environment.

Maintenance

As previously mention, you will no longer have to be worried about maintenance when you consider this type of roof. The EPDM membrane will oxidize eventually, but the process is very slow, so you need to only clean the roof around 3 to 4 times per year, which slows the process even more. If there is any debris or dirt on the roof, all you have to do is rinse it with water and that’s about it. At the same time, you may also want to use a special cleaning product, case in which you can get one at any roofing supply store. Just make sure you add enough water to the mix and then use a medium bristle brush to scrub it over.

It’s important that after you make use of a cleaning agent, to rinse the rubber roofing with plenty of water. On top of that, if you will ever damage your roof by accident or it will get damaged in general, you can use people and stick repair kits, which can be purchased in many sizes.

Durability

This kind of roof will last for at least twenty years, but in general, manufacturers will only offer you a ten years warranty. In order for the warranty to be valid, you don’t really need to consider any special products on the roof, which is great. In fact, using them might even be contrary to the terms and conditions of the warranty, so that is why you should avoid them. Not only is rubber very much resistant to the ultraviolet rays from the sun, but it also has a high tensile and elasticity strength. Even if the temperatures are extremely low, it will still retain its elasticity.

Rubber Roofing Uses

Last but not least, you will generally consider this type of roof if you want to protect a property or anything else from the elements. Be sure though to not get any grease, petroleum or similar products on it, because damage might occur.

  1. Rubber roofing is a popular method for installing flat roofs on houses or commercial buildings nowadays. It is a merely new technique for roof installation by use of new materials but some see it as a new era in the building trade.
